Improved quality of services in Hanoi, Vietnam. Joint training and education project for urban wastewater facilities.

In order to improve the performance of selected Vietnamese sewerage and drainage companies, BWI in co-operation with the Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company (HSDC) have set up a joint training and education project in the field of operation of urban waste water facilities.

The project aims at improving both management and operational abilities of public utilities in mid-sized cities in Vietnam, such as Vinh, Can Tho, Nha Trang, etc. As a result, a Centre of Competence for aforementioned services has to be established with HSDC in Hanoi.

This project is co-financed under the PPP-scheme of the German Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ).
Types of services provided:

  • Waste water treatment plant (WWTP) operations know-how transfer
  • Training of qualified staff in the fields of WWTP operations, sewer systems maintenance, control and extension, health safety, laboratory work, taking of wastewater samples and monitoring of wastewater discharges, planning and construction of WWTP’s and preparation of tender documents including tender evaluation process
  • Institutional strengthening through conduction of workshops and seminars with key personal, key institutions and NGO’s
  • Establishment of an competence centre for wastewater operations for the transfer of knowledge to other WWTP operators throughout Vietnam

The project was finished in 2004.
