Nanchang
Since October 2004, Berlinwasser International AG has been operating, on a BOT-basis, a treatment facility equipped with German technology with a 330,000 m³/day capacity that has enabled the sustainable improvement of the environmental situation in Nanchang, the capital of South-Eastern China’s Jianxi Province.
German environmental technology
Purifying the wastewater produced by a third of the city’s population of 3.5 million, the plant is putting know-how and environmental technology from Germany to excellent use in China. The plant comprises a mechanical and a biological purifying stage. Sludge is routed into a digestion stage. BWI is currently developing concepts for sludge disposal.
The BOOT project, ready for signing in a matter of months, was built in only 18 months. Over the operation term of 20 years, BWI AG will be responsible for the hitch-free operation of the plant and the treatment of wastewater in accordance with the valid environmental standards.
The relevant agreements with BWI AG’s Chinese partners were signed in 2003, whereupon a project company was established to execute the project. The plant was ceremoniously brought on line in October 2004, in the presence of Berlin’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Senator Harald Wolf, and the Party Secretary and Mayor of Nanchang.
