Kathmandu Management Contract

Nepal _ November - Kathmandu, the capital and largest metropolitan city of Nepal and the urban core of the Kathmandu Valley in the Himalayas will receive management experience from Berlin. Kathmandu suffers from water shortage and deficits in piped water supply.

Berlinwasser International is the Consortium leader in the Management Contract "Capacity Building and Public-Private Partnership Support Team For the Management and Operation of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL)", signed on Nov. 12, 2010. The Contract is financed by ADB and will run for the next 4 years.

Berlinwasser International will initial capacity building of KUKL and jointly with KUKL improve all aspects of technical, financial and administration aspects of the water supply of the city. A team of line managers and short term experts will be send from Berlinwasser International in order to manage KUKL jointly with the local management with the aim to improve operations, identify and reduce technical and financial losses and support in investment programs and asset management. A particular focus is the extended water services to low-income households. KUKL has over 160,000 water connections with an overall populations in the Kathmandu metropolitan area of 1,5 Mio.
